Asterix pioneers the workforce model endorsed by NHS 10 Year Plan

Asterix Health in the 10 Year Plan
At Asterix, we are pioneering the workforce model endorsed by the NHS 10 Year Plan, enabling UK-registered doctors to provide services to NHS patients, working remotely from abroad.
The plan states:
We will explore opportunities to deploy UK-registered professionals working in other countries, to provide remote services to NHS patients. This will give the NHS an opportunity to tap into global talent, deliver 24/7 access and increase productivity.
Asterix makes it simple for UK primary care providers to access highly-qualified doctors with UK-recognised GP qualifications. With a focus on non-patient-facing clinical administration tasks like interpreting lab results and clinical triage, Asterix Doctors complement local GPs to deliver better care to patients who need it most.

About Asterix
Asterix is the first and only approved provider of doctors working remotely for NHS GP practices from abroad. The core of its workforce studied, trained and worked as GPs in the UK before relocating abroad.
Our model features industry-leading clinical governance, under the leadership of GP Partner and Founding Chief Medical Officer Dr Dan Bunstone, to ensure the safety of patients and doctors at all times.
All doctors undergo a comprehensive, bespoke accreditation program delivered in collaboration with leading primary care providers to ensure competence of their role. Asterix uses ongoing, CQC-approved clinical audit processes to maintain the highest standards of patient safety at all times. Combining best-in-class governance with proactive operational support ensures both quality and productivity.
Asterix is already working with the UK’s leading primary care providers, who have shown how this modern model benefits patients: The extra time of local clinical staff has been used to establish new minor acute clinics and increase face-to-face consultation duration.
Meeting the ambition of the modern workforce
The NHS 10 Year Plan sets out three fundamental shifts: from hospital to community, from analogue to digital, and from sickness to prevention.
However, the workforce meant to deliver these shifts is increasingly overwhelmed. Recent data shows that two-thirds of GPs have considered moving abroad in search of better pay and work-life balance. International recruitment firms are already actively placing UK GPs in Canada, Australia and the Middle East.
At the same time, the government’s ambitions to improve the patient experience by providing online GP access requires additional highly-qualified doctors being available for more hours.
Asterix’s model addresses both challenges: Accessing a new pool of GP-level doctors frees up local staff to focus on community-based care the plan demands.
Dr Dan Bunstone, GP Partner & Founding Chief Medical Officer of Asterix Health, said:
To deliver NHS England’s three big shifts we need new models of high-quality and safe care, whilst reducing both costs and waiting times for patients. At Asterix we’re developing a new model that combines industry-leading clinical governance with GMC-registered doctors based abroad.
Working in collaboration with leading primary care providers has enabled us to create an improved model of care. It creates more time for local GPs to deal with complex patients or to simply take a breather on a busy day.
Julian Titz, Co-founder & CEO of Asterix Health, said:
At Asterix, we’re on a mission to power modern healthcare. We want to do so in a trusted way, leading with both clinical and operational quality that ensures continuous, safe productivity. It’s fantastic to see NHS England take notice of innovative workforce models that are created in collaboration with clinicians and patients.
Our model of care allows us to bring highly qualified, UK-trained GPs back into the NHS workforce remotely. This really makes a difference for patients who benefit from better access to high-quality healthcare.
